FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas track and field is ranked No. 2 by Trackwire 25, it was announced on Tuesday. Six Razorbacks were also tabbed in the Trackwire Dandy Dozen.

The Trackwire 25 projects a hypothetical score for the NCAA meet, factoring in injury reports and other variables supported by information gathered from coaches and NCAA-qualifying competitions across the country. This projection is generated by scoring the Dandy Dozen, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event.

The Razorbacks, defending NCAA Indoor Champions, opened the 2007 season recording five NCAA provisional-qualifying marks and two-personal bests.

Arkansas is sitting at No. 2 behind NCAA Outdoor Champion Florida State. Among the SEC schools, Auburn is seated at No. 7, Florida at No. 8, South Carolina is 11th while Tennessee is ranked 17th.

Also released on Tuesday are the Dandy Dozen rankings. Six Razorbacks are ranked in six events and the distance medley relay is seated at No. 2 behind Wisconsin.

J-Mee Samuels, who clocked a personal best and provisional-qualifying time of 6.69 at the Arkansas Invitational, is ranked No. 4 in the 60-meter dash. Eight-time All-American Peter Kosgei is ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively. All-American Adam Perkins is seated at No. 5 in the mile.

In the field events, newcomer Alain Bailey, who also registered a provisional-qualifying mark this past weekend, opens his collegiate career with a ranking of No. 4 in the long jump. In the triple jump, provisionally-qualified All-American Nkosinza Balumbu is at the top of the list with freshman-teammate Gary Jones in the No. 12 spot.

The Cardinal and White will return to the track Fri., Jan. 19, for the two-day Razorback Invitational.
